Blue 42 …blue 42 …set …HIKE! Look, I’m a football aficionado! Ok, ok, not exactly. I only get involved in football when it comes to the food served at the parties. Football fans know snack food. And I’m all about snack food. With the fall football season about to start again, it’s time to get those football party snack plans rolling. This recipe is perfect for any football party. It’s yummy, football themed, and so easy! Here’s what you’ll need: A pound cake (I used a 16oz Sara Lee cake from the freezer aisle), candy melts, cake pop sticks, 1/4 cup simple white icing (I just mixed powdered sugar and milk together until it was a toothpaste consistency)
I started by following the directions on my pound cake and let thaw. Then I cut 1″ slices. Next, using a cup, I cut out a football shape from each slice. Study the pictures below to see how I was able to make the shape.
Once the pound cake has been shaped into little footballs, you’ll insert the cake pop sticks. A little tip first, though: melt your candy melts first according to the directions on the pack. Then dip the end of each stick into the melted chocolate then insert it into the football shaped cakes. This will help your stick to stay secure. Next, place the cake pops into the freezer for 15 min.
After the cake pops have been chilled, re-melt the candy melts and coat the cake pops. One by one, start by dipping one side, then turn to completely coat. Once coated, let dry on a wire rack or stand them in a styrofoam block.
For the finishing touch, i used white icing to add the laces. I made a super simple icing (just powdered sugar and a tiny bit of milk mixed to the consistency of toothpaste), placed it in a plastic baggie, cut a tiny tip off a corner of the baggie, then piped the icing onto the cake pops. Touchdown!
