Have you ever made a cake and thought it was missing something? Have you ever shown up to a party and been impressed with the cake the host/hostess had on display? It’s amazing what a huge difference just a little bit of time and effort can make. With some washi tape with baker’s twine the opportunities are endless! Today we have a fun diy project for the cake at your next get together or party. Cakes can be boring, but today we are going to make a fiesta on top your cake! I personally am not a great cake decorator and so by making a bunting cake topper people won’t even look that closely at the cake I made. It’s a win-win for everyone!
The first step is to gather your supplies. For this project all you need is some paper straws, washi tape, and baker’s twine. Oh and you will also need a cake, but that should be obvious by now. The length of your twine will depend on how long you want your bunting to be and how big your cake is.
Now we move onto the fun part. Because washi tape is a bit transparent I used some white paper in between the fold in the tape to make the patterns stand out more. I attached half of the tape to the paper and then I folded the tape over the string and stuck it to the other side. I was careful to maintain a consistent space between each flag.
Once I attached the flags to the string I started trimming the edges. I used a ribbon shaped bunting for this cake topper. Triangles are another popular shape.
After I finished trimming the edges, I attached the ends to two paper straws. Just a simple knot around the straw will do. And voila! You’re all done!
Just Artifacts has a vast selection of washi tape, baker’s twine and paper straws for all your cake topper needs. While you’re there don’t forget to check out the rest of the party supplies that you will need. Plates, napkins, and cutlery for your treats. Paper lanterns, tissue poms, tissue tassels, and balloons for your decorations.
